No easy way around this, when the keyboard is open, the on screen keyboard is 
not activated, because it assumes, usually correctly, that you are going to 
type with the hardware keyboard. The real fix for this will be when this phone 
gets the ice cream sandwich upgrade, you will then be able to navigate without 
using the hardware arrow keys.
