This is quite the interesting topic for sure. Yes, it is frustrating at the moment that there are not as many options for those wanting a keyboard. However, if I can get a good touch screen that takes tapping motions easily and have a good speech package and Bluetooth, I'll be okay.
Apple is nice, but it is nice that if you want android, you can have it. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Dusty Tague Sent: Friday, July 26, 2013 11:26 AM To: Mobile Accessibility Android Users List Subject: Re: [MA] Phones with a physical keyboard It is because of the iPhone that we are touchless. Prior to Apple's dominance, BlackBerry was the standard. Since BlackBerries had and some models still have physical keyboards, manufacturers included them for android phones. As Apple's dominance grew and Blackberry's waned, manufacturers decided that due to the cost of producing one and in order to capitalize on Apple's success, the keyboard was removed from the high end phones and are now only available on mid-level or entry-level devices. Because of this, the Operating system wasn't updated to reflect the desire for many to be on the latest firmware and still have a keyboard. If RIM again begins to nibble at market share, at least from Apple, then you will see a resurgence of high end devices with physical keyboards. You will see them occasionally as niche devices on the mid-range and entry-level phones though.
