Hello Douglas

It's a little difficult to answer your question because the two systems are
very different. Pages is one application which will handle Word documents and
there are others. Nisus Writer Pro, for instance, handles them very well.

As for Excel and Numbers, I have to say I don't use them a lot but my best
advice to you would be to try and get access to a Mac if you can. The Apple
Stores are alright but the problem is that you can't really get a good feel of
everything because of time, the environment, etc. It'd be better if you could
get a friend to take you on a tour of their Mac.

Again, it is not, I believe, possible to answer the question "What's the
difference between this programme, that programme and the other programme,
because the first thing that has to be taken into consideration is, for those
who need it, VoiceOver. Before you learn anything about utility software it
would, I think, be a requirement that you learn to handle VoiceOver and the
operating system.

Whether or not you ditch Windows is entirely your own business. All I'm
advocating is that, if you do buy a Mac, you need to be able and willing to
drop any pre-conceptions, [prejudices and expectation. You also need to be
prepared to start learning from the ground up because those of you who are
blind or visually impaired also have the additional step of learning to use
VoiceOver. Until you accomplish that, it's somewhat difficult to use utility
software.

On the OS X platform, you don't get the hand-holding virtual buffers and almost
sheltered environment that you get under Windows. With VoiceOver you get the
feel of how things really are located on screen. I've heard the OS described as
an "object-orientated environment".

Feel free to ask questions about the Mac, Douglas, that's what the list is here
for. If you like you can write me privately; I'll be more than willing to talk
to you about this off list. Then perhaps I could give you more detailed
comparisons which I'm not willing to do on list because it would take me way
off topic. My personal address if you want it is <[email protected]>.

unfortunitley i will never be able to leave windows totally because of the job
i am aiming at, but for personal use, i want to go mac, since it is way more of
a stable os compared to the new windows, don't get me worng they are good os's,
but yes, mac sees to be the way i want to go.. i just kind of want to know the
basics, i know this is a comparison between the 2, but what are the differences
between pages, numbers, keynote, etc compared to ms office?... i have 0
experiance, i just kinda want to know what i am up against when i go for the
switch. Im seriously looking at getting myself a mac book pro, with the top for
everything, all my specs will max the system for upgrades, what can i then do
with the voice over on the mac? how does it work and all that..:D.. i am so
curious, because we don't have an apple store near by me, it is like 8 hour
drive away..lol.. and the guys who sell the apple products, well they are umm,
dorks who don't kknow jack about accessibility.
