All right. Here are a couple of thoughts. I'm really just tossing things
out to you and have no idea if this will make a difference.
Firstly, you might want to try using the actual delete button in the table
for removing the Drop Box from your login items table. I don't know if this
makes a difference, but I made sure the item was gone by using the button and
not just using the delete key.
Secondly, after you reboot, I actually copied the Drop Box app file into my
applications folder before then opening the context menu to run the Drop Box
application from the package contents folder.
Lastly, when you get the terminal window after you start the Drop Box app
from the package contents folder, you might want to use the window chooser menu
in finder to see if the Drop Box install window is present. I recall
command-tabbing did not locate it for me.
