Hello Chris

This is obviously me doing something wrong then; because I have got the
commander enabled but it isn't doing what I expected. The cursor just goes
shooting off away around the screen and I can't get it to read the actual web
page at all.

Lynne,

You do not need to place your hands on the keyboard whilst using a trackpad.
Have you got trackpad commander enabled?

If so, it should work similar to using an ios device. Using the rota to switch
between headers, links, tables etc and then you swipe up or down to jump
between these elements. For reading you should just be able to swipe left or
right with a single finger.

You can also switch the keyboard help on to practice gestures.
