Hi William,
I don't know if anybody's ever come up with a satisfactory reason for this to 
be the case, but for what it's worth I run into it less in Lion than I did in 
SL.  I suspect some kind of memory leak or script-related problem.  I'd report 
it, as the more such reports Apple has the more likely they are to be able to 
do something about it.
