I did not have a problem with vmware tools. I used the vmware fusion easy 
install, windows 7 32 bit professional, it did the install and installed the 
vmware tools, and I ended up on the windows desktop. I have heard that user 
account control can get in the way of vmware tools installing, the first thing 
I did once windows was installed was to turn that off, I don't need the system 
prompting me if I'm sure I want to do something, if I didn't want it, I would 
not have selected it. Even if vmware tools does not install, you can install it 
manually once the virtual machine is up and running.
