Subject: Where to get "LineIn" program for audio monitoring [was Re: An
Audio Question.]
Hi Jim,
This isn't Sarah, but you can get the free "LineIn" program from the Rogue
Amoeba freebies page:
http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/
For those who haven't been following this thread, the Mac audio software
doesn't support "pass thru" monitoring of an input audio signal from Mic
or other input source in its default configuration. This function usually
has to be implemented by your audio recording or editing software if you
want to monitor the volume level or content of what you are recording
through headphones. "LineIn" is a simple, free program whose window
features a "pass thru" button along with buttons for the input and output
audio selection.
If you need to find this again, just do a Google search for "Rogue Amoeba
freebies". (Rogue Amoeba is the developer of the "Audio Hijack Pro"
recording software).
HTH. Cheers,
Esther

Thanks for your post. The problem with that solution is that it
changes the default soundcard across the board. Onlike the Windows
version of Skype, there does not appear to be a way to change the
output level in the Skype preferences. Is that correct? If so, bummer.
Thanks all over the place.

No. Well yes. you need to set the output also to the sound card of
yoru headset in order for that to work. You do thiw in system prefs or
by holding down option f12 to get there or option fn 12 if you have
to.
Take care.

Hi Folks:
I am using a cordless USB headset for the Skype program. I can get
Skype to use both the mick as well as the headphones; the problem is
that, the volume control on the headset controls the default Mac
volume but does not alter the sound level of Skype.
Is there a way around this?
Thanks all over the place gang.
