Karen: Go to home folder and under library go to preferences.
Once there, look for com.apple.finder.plist and delete this file. Once you do this, do a reboot right way. Once you reboot this file will be recreated. Hope this works, I had a finder a few months ago and by deleting this file refreshes finder.
