Try just using the arrow keys without the VO keys. That's what I always do when 
editing.

You don't need Adobe to read PDF files. You have Preview already installed on 
your Mac.

Try saving the attachment to your Desktop. When you open the message, do 
VO-Left arrow, then interact and navigate right. You should find a Save button. 
Do VO-Space on this and navigate the dialogue box as usual.
