Thanks, Travis, you're absolutely correct that space bar by itself works with QuickTime Player. I forgot about this. This is like some of the instances in system preferences, at least in earlier versions like Tiger and Leopard, where following directions to click in the field gets you absolutely nowhere, but simply pressing tab would work. Go figure.
