As I read the complex gestures, I find myself wondering, why not just touch 
the dots you want, and the space bar at the bottom would let the app know 
that you are done with the character.
I don't wish to learn a new way of typing Braille.

Ar, I don't think you get the idea. My advice would be to first make the
keyboard appear with a single tap anywhere on the screen. Then do a
flick up to open the menu. Then double tap help. The second topic gives
a list of all supported Braille characters, with their equivalent
gesture patterns.
