Oh yes, it's fine for speech but not for music. But like you say don't
expect any built in speaker to produce good quality sound for music. If
I want to listen to music I would connect my device to a docking station
with speakers.

Hi everyone
I remember discussions on this list quite some time ago in which concerns were
expressed regarding the quality of the internal Speaker of the iPod Touch? I'm
assuming that - at the time - the discussion centred around the iPod Touch 2nd
or 3rd generation? There's really nothing to complain about when it comes to
the internal speaker of my iPod 4th Generation.
Given the fact that the speaker itself would probably be at least a quarter of
the size of that contained within the iPhone 4, I think it gives a pretty
amazing sound.
Yep, something you have to train yourself a bit to hear perhaps but I'm used to
it now and I've been using my iPod for what.. about a week?
Now I should also point out that I have a 90% hearing loss so if I have good words to
say about the speaker in the present generation of iPod Touch then I reckon it must
sound quite reasonable to those with full natural hearing<smile>.
And a final thought from my perspective, an Internal speaker on an iPod is to me a
secondary concern, I bought my iPod to use with Headphones, stream to other devices
and so on, in any case quality of good music just isn't there with the Internal
speaker however its handy for setting up Voiceover and a million other things apart
from music<smile>.
