Hi Lynne -- It's been a few months since I used my iPhone as a hotspot for my Macbook, but I seem to recall liking the USB connection the best. This was primarily because I was then able to charge my iphone and macbook using just the macbook's power source. If memory serves, I don't recall any speed differences between the wi-fi and USB connections. Of course, if you're looking to connect more than one device to your hotspot, USB probably wouldn't be the first choice. I didn't spend much time trying bluetooth, so can't offer an informed opinion there.
