I may have got this wrong but I think what Jim is asking about is non
contiguous selection in Finder. If it is then the way to do this in Lion is to
press VO cmd Spacebar to select or deselect files then VO Cursor to the n next
file you want to highlight and then press VO Cmd spacebar again.
I do not think this works under Snow Leopard.
