Best is really a relative term. Most of what goes into making
something best is how well something works for you, and does it have
the features you need.
I use quicktime, because it does everything I want/need. Others use
audio hijack (I use that too sometimes) and still others use
audyssey, while others use garage band, line in, freejack, and
there's plenty of others. It's all based on what you are trying to
do. Obviously, audyssey is probably too feature packed for someone
looking to just record a voice memo or something, while quicktime
isn't likely to suit you if you're trying to record a fancy podcast
with intros, out fades, and the like.
There's free options, and pay options, simple programs, and complex
feature packed options, so you can see, best is definitely a relative
term. If you could offer more details on what you're tryying to do,
I'm sure folks would be happy to offer suggestions.
