You can get a LAN cable from your local computer or electronics store,
unfortunately the Airport Extreme doesn't come with one and it certainly
should! in my view.

If you already have a wireless network up and running then its most likely that
the Airport Extreme will automatically connect to that thus it will be found by
the Airport Utility but the LAN cable is always handy to hav lying around at
least.

In my experience you may find that the Airport Extreme is an excellent
replacement for your wi-fi router for several reasons, firstly it uses the
5.8GHZ band as well as the 2.4GHZ radio band for transmission thus giving you
faster network speeds etc, the book I mentioned talks a lot about this.
