Interesting - I think I might try this.
Does anybody know are there any downsides, security etc about
downloading
and running Java for Mac?
Apple has been working very hard lately to get java for mac
operational to the point where the official sun release can be
dropped in w/no issues. They'v also been working on making sure java
works well with voiceover. Obviously, there's nothing like the java
access bridge, so graphical items like graphic text drawn on
backgrounds to make it look like text is beyond voiceover, but if the
java application behaves itself, anduses standard java classes,
voiceover will work with any java application out of the box.
And, security shouldn't be an issue, as apple is very good at keeping
up with the official sun releases now, and making sure all os
components behave well with java.
In short, there's nothing to worry about when using java on the mac.
If the apps are written well, it will work out of the box, and that
should be good news for a lot of applications/developers.
Of course, there's always those developers who (like on apple
provided programming environments) don't follow the rules, and shoot
accessibility all to kingdom come, but those who do things properly
will find their apps completely usable by vo users.
