Hi Jim,

ITunes has a separate volume slider, and it's possible that this has been set 
all the way down.  Can you play tracks from your own library? You can check the 
volume slider by starting from the search text field (Command-Option-F), then 
VO-Left arrow or Left arrow (in QuickNav mode) past the view options and LCD 
section to the Full volume button and volume slider. If you accidentally 
pressed the "mute" button just to left of the slider, you wouldn't get any 
sounds from iTunes, and the volume slider would be set to 0 per cent.
