Hi Roger I tried that, it was my first thought actually. But no go, I wasn't able to remove the files from the trash either. However, I have now resolved the issue and I'll tell you how, just out of interest.
The drive in question was actually an NTFS drive, formatted using Paragon Software's NTFS Mac drivers. When I put the drive back on to our PC, alarm bells started clanging all over the place, reporting file system errors. So I opted to totally re-format the drive, having zapped and re-created the partition. That solved the problem so there clearly was a pretty serious file allocation error there. I am currently trying to track down when the issue arose so that I can try to reproduce the problem and, hopefully, make the developers aware of the underlying cause.
