Hi, It is normal for it to use battery even with the lid closed unless you have actually shut down. Some tips to save battery during use (at least for a voice over user) are: Use the function 1 key to lower the screen brightness, even fully off if you like 2. Use the function 5 key to lower the light that illuminates the keyboard all the way to nothing Doing these two little things gives you an amazing amount of extra battery time! My machine allows me enough battery to use it on a cross-country flight (across the US) only letting it hibernate for the little time I might be having a beverage.
