Lynn have you tried this: 1. Unplug your iPod. 2. Hold down the power and home buttons, and plug in your iPod. 3. Wait until iTunes detects your iPod then tease the home button but keep the power button held. When iTunes detects the iPod in recovery mode, release the power button and follow the prompts from iTunes. I think I have that procedure correct although it's been a while since I did this.
