Hi Neil,

I don't know how you want to resize your images, but you can do this with the
tools menu in Preview, and even set this up to batch resize several images at
once. Since you probably have your images set to open in Preview by default,
start by trying to just display one of these in Preview. Then use either
Control-F2 or VO-M to move to the toolbar, press "t" to navigate to the "Tools"
menu, arrow down to the "Adjust size…" option, and press return.

Your dialog window will allow you to adjust the image dimensions in several
ways. For example, you can simply scale the width and height dimensions up or
down in percentage values, instead of using units of pixels, inches, cm, mm, or
points. If you don't want to separately adjust the values of height and width,
just make sure that the "Scale Proportionately" check box is checked. You can
also force the image to fit into standard pixel dimensions, like 640 by 480,
which involves resampling the image, and you can set the resolution you want to
use (like 72 pixels/inch).

The dialog window will also give you information on the resulting size of these
changes (e.g., if I force a picture taken with my iPhone 5 camera to 320 by 480
pixel size, it will have a width of 2.5 inches and height of 3.33 inches, and
be reduced to 7.4 percent, with a size of 33 KB instead of 2.3 MB.

I hope you know more about what you want to do with this resizing of images for
web pages than I do! In any case, once you've fiddled this the way you want,
you can simply select many images that you want to adjust at once, for example
by holding down the Shift key and arrowing down through a list of some of your
images in a folder within Finder. Then choose the "Adjust size…" option in the
Tools menu of Preview, use your selected options and either press the "OK"
button in the dialog window or press carriage return.

I think you can experiment around with this. Image resizing for web pages
isn't something that I ever fool around with, myself, so maybe someone else can
give you some tips.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
