Hi Desi,

There are apps that can identify your model of iOS device, and I think that
when you connect your iPod Touch to your computer in iTunes, this information
may also be available. However, since I don't know what software you have on
your iOS device, try the following: navigate to Settings > General > About. On
the "About" screen, flick right to "Model" which will be about 10 or so fields
down. Set your rotor to characters, and read off the model number. Then do a
Google search on the model string. It might be something like MD059LL or
MC547LL, but that's only a guess. Your serial number, listed just after the
model number on the "About" screen, is also a sure way to identify your iOS
device model, but it's much longer to navigate through. Again, it's easier to
get this by connecting your device to your computer, and navigating to the
first tab in iTunes for the connected device. Use the VO-Shift-C shortcut to
copy last spoken phrase to clipboard after navigating to this
field, then paste the number into an open TextEdit window with Command-V.

I strongly recommend that all users register their iOS devices and other Apple
products at Apple's "My Support Profile" page at:
https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do

This is now automatic for new iOS devices as part of the setup, and the serial
number will be sent without your having to do anything. However, for older
devices, Mac computers, time capsules, Apple TVs, etc. logging into that site
with your AppleID and password will let you add your devices by serial number
for a permanent record. This creates a permanent record of your device and its
specs. Every one of my Apple computers, dating from my very first Mac laptop
(still working) that goes back to when VoiceOver was first released is
registered there, along with all my iOS devices. I don't have to try to
remember the specs or model year of each product, because I can read them off
the site. It also keeps track of which items are still under warranty coverage
(with or without the purchase of Apple Care). There are also links to specific
product notices for these devices. If you ever sell your Mac or iOS devices,
need precise hardware information for technical support, or i
n the event you need to report a loss or damage for insurance purposes, you
have complete information here.

I posted about registering your Apple products for a permanent record of the
serial numbers nearly two years ago, in response to a post by Martin McCormick
who, as a sys admin, was trying to assist some people at his university whose
Macs had been stolen. He had a record of their network hardware addresses from
their connection, but was trying to help them provide the police with more
information to assist in the recovery, since they couldn't remember details
about the model or configuration, much less the serial number.

Once you enter a serial number for your Apple product at the My Support Profile
web address, you can check the full hardware specifications of the item and the
model at that site.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
