Just a note about the Desktop here, and this is my experience. This may no longer be an issue for most people. For some reason (which I've not yet had chance to look into) OS X does not like clutter on the desktop. The od folder shouldn't pose a problem, though I would imagine that this depends on the size of the folder and its contents. So in short, it might be an idea not to clutter your Desktop with too many folders.
