I think I have four the answer to the phantom unread message in my In box. Having googled the problem several answers came up. I went into edit the In box marked all as unread. closed Mail. then opened mail and repeated as above but this time marked Mail as read. and there is now no Mail messages showing. I also turned off the Badge, may try and turn it on again later to see if it makes any difference. I hope it continues to work alright. Thank you all for your input its much appreciated.
