Many thanks for your below instructions.  I have carried out what you have
suggested, and I can now open the download's folder with VO plus spacebar.
However, this does not work for the documentt's folder on the dock, I hear
VO saying "showing stats or stacks" - sorry can't hear too good <smiles>.
.  I have tried pressing command plus O but this also doesn't avtivate.

Please could you help?

In order to access folders on the dock with Voiceover you nee dot assign
different view settings to the default.
You need to set the view option away from the default stack to folder and
specify the view option as list also. This requires repeatedly entering the
options of the dock item with shift vo m.
