It’s best to use the Dock for aliases. Personally, I don’t bother with them as it’s so easy to locate any files or folders I want by using the first letter or two of the name. I’m really pretty organised when it comes to storing files.
Also, don’t forget that it’s easy to reorganise the Dock so that your items are in alphabetical order. Just use Cmd-Option-Right or Left Arrow and you’ll hear where you’re putting the item you’re moving.
