I have had a look at the price of Nisus Writer Pro on 2 of my machines, in the app store on my Mac Book Air it is priced at £54.95 and on my Mac Book Pro again in the UK store it is priced at £5.95. Now why would there be a £50 difference on both machines. How much have people paid for this app?

I do not use Preview but I understand that there are issues with Preview under Yosemite which require to interact twice before you can access the text.

A thing to try, if your wife can see the text, is to print the file, oddly to PDF. The OS X print dialogue allows you to print to PDF and this may result in another PDF file which is more friendly to Voiceover. Make sure it you give another file name.

Alternatively Do you have access to Nisus Writer Pro? This is a paid app but I use it on the mac to read PDF. If the PDFs are inaccessible because they are either graphics or DRM protected you may have to use something like Finereader to access them.
