Hmmm... In my experience, most IT professionals I work with see that the premium price is getting them super-sexy hardware, well-integrated solutions, and an OS that kicks anything Windows has to offer by being based on Unix. As far as premium price is concerned, I simply point to the residual value of my computer after nearly 2 years -> around 70%. With a PC, the residual value after this time period would hover near 30%. PC's are also so cheap because of the weak economy and lack of killer apps requiring higher processing power. People are willing to pay a premium for a Hollywood-quality DVD authoring solution. However, I do believe the iMacs should be a lot lower in price point as a loss leader for Apple. > PC because it is cheaper. This is a true test result! I did a poll in my > school. Nah, most kids in high school I know want games. Plain and simple. PC's win for this reason only most of the time. All JR's classmates are playing Counter-Strike, and for that reason I want a PC. The hacker few actually respond to the Unix base that OS X offers. Where will Apple be in the next 10 years??? Unless they come up with a thoroughly comprehensive Enterprise strategy, they'll still be around 5-10%. If they can harness their integration with Java, and start providing Java application servers like IBM and Sun, along with easy to administer OS X, they might climb higher in market share. Apple will never disappear because they are a true innovator. Like Sony, they push the envelope and all the rest imitate. Anyway, just some thoughts. Hopefully not any flamebait.
