I have an iBook SE with a tray loading CD-ROM drive. When I try to insert a CD into the drive it sounds like the CD is rubbing somewhere. The CD will rarely get up to full speed and will not mount on the desktop. Does anyone know if this is repairable or should I go ahead and replace the drive with a new one? What is the Apple Part Number for this baby?
If new, the Apple replacement drive seems to be very expensive. Does anyone know if there are any alternatives besides hooking up an external USB drive?
