[EMAIL PROTECTED]@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Bell @[EMAIL PROTECTED] Bell @[EMAIL PROTECTED] thieves @[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] @#$!$# highway robbery -- it costs them *less* to implement touch-tone yet they charge people for it (plus, they don't allow you to decline touch-tone yet you have to pay for it... @[EMAIL PROTECTED])* monopolies). >> Admittedly, she has quite a collection of rotary phones; one upstairs in >> the master bedroom, one yellow >> wall phone downstairs in the kitchen. You didn't say > which OS but it is fairly easy in either X, or pre-X At the very end of the message Bruce mentioned 9.2.2 ;P Open up "Modem" and select "Pulse" (if you have a "fast" phone number 222-1111 or something like that you could leave it on Pulse all the time). If you use a manual dial string with ATD or ATDT 555-555-1212 in it append P to make it ATDP. PS Bruce, you mentioned that you have a phone-line dedicated to dialup. Provided you live in the GTA (Hamilton comes to mind) you may be able to get the same service you have now for a similar price (also requires that your line can be serviced by Bell Sympatico's HSE). There's an outfit called the Toronto FreeNet that's a not-for-profit that provides ADSL. I've been using them for about a month now and have been quite impressed by the quality of the connection -- it's *fast* (my partner is moving to the UK soon and is dreading having to go back to dialup). And, supposedly they have dial-up access (I think 10 hours/month) if you require it (I get 20 hours/4 months from the U of T "for free" ($6000 tuition bill later) so I don't need extra modem access). Cost = $37.50 + tax/month and you have to buy the modem up front ($200 after tax) and pay for first and last month's service (no contract). They'll buy the modem back from you within the first year if you quit their service reducing the price by $10 (admin fee) + $7.50/month (so I guess the same as renting from Symcrapico except that you own your own modem after two years and are then "home free"). Compared to Symcrapico HSE or Rogers not-so-reliable Cable it's a good deal (plus, you're not sending profit into a faceless corporation's coffers... (though, I guess Bell does get some $$$ (ain't it great being a pseudo-monopoly... you get money from everyone regardless of what you do) since TorFreeNet does rent their lines)).
