Hi Mark: Monitors can hold their charge for years. They're *really* not something you should mess around with unless you know exactly what you're doing. The process to discharge the monitor is, in theory, not difficult (I had an iMac that I wanted to rip apart several years ago, and researched the topic pretty thoroughly), but I myself decided against trying it based on the advice of online "experts." I'd suggest maybe taking the monitor to a TV repair place, have them discharge it, then do the work yourself? Just a suggestion.
