Where's the best place to get a reasonably priced G4? The best I've seen is a 500MHz tower at CPUsed.com for $899 - I have to buy OS X on top of that... Maybe a better plan is to get a combo-drive eMac for $1099..
eBay Canada has very few deals right now, and I'm scared to look at the US ones, because of potential duties. Has anyone bought something from the States? Do you have to pay duty?
Or are there good off-lease or refurbished places you trust?
Finally, a question "I" might be able to shed some light on.
Ebay Canada (ebay.ca) go to the Apple/Macintosh section and if the system identifies you as a Cannuck then you might have to click on the link that says "browse items available to Canada". Then either do a specific search for "G4" or browse through the entire list. One has to be careful. Shipping from the states can get expensive, not to mention tricky, if someone is relatively new to ebay, I would hesitate to deal with them (if they were a seller) I read everything they have to say on their auction page and try to get an overall feel for their integrity. I've only been burned once and I reversed the transaction on the credit card and blistered them with a negative feedback that soon saw them close up shop and move elsewhere. I have seen some pretty good deals on both computers and software.
I saw 10.3 go for $93.00 US, almost bid on it too.
I bought my Mac through the 1800-MY-Mac or something like that. The local dealer didn't take me seriously nor I him, so I bought my DP 1000Mhz G4 complete with Ultra SCSI HDD and 17" FP Studio Display. I had to wire transfer the $ to them via some bank in Toronto which they rejected (bank in Toronto) so they could make an extra $30.00 in service charges (which my bank ate). Both boxes came from Texas?? and they even absorbed the shipping (Apple). It will be a while before I will want to put this machine on the market, but when I do someone will get a sweet deal as most Apple stuff on ebay that is popular usually goes for half of new.
