Although I've not used this particular feature, my daughter's Sony digital video camera recorder (a digital 8 model, DCR-TRV520) has the capability to take the output of a VCR or TV and convert it to digital video (DV) either to record it or to send it to the computer via the firewire interface. This means no need for extra equipment to get an analog signal from your VHS VCR into your computer.

Hi Folks

I've just joined this group. Let me tell you what I'd like to do and
ask for your indulgent help.

I have lots of VHS home videos of family interest that I wish to edit
( a lot of cutting especially) and output both to VHS for family
members who don't have DVD; but also to output to DVD.

Now I want to do this well, but like most folks I guess, do it on a
small budget. I am a longtime Mac user and thinking of buying a new
eMac or a used G4. So I'd like to hear from any Mac user in this
group that has some suggestions both about hardware & software and
any other specifically Mac suggestions..

So flood me with ideas, suggestions, warnings, advice and some
encouragement too. Email me directly if you wish at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
