According to apple-history.com, they both have identical bus speeds of 50mhz, so I'd say it didn't matter which you upgraded, so go for the slower 9500. I have a 7500 with a Sonnet card in it, and it runs 10.2.8 reasonably well, but 10.3 is a bust. Crashes constantly even with the last version of Xpostfacto I had. Can't remember the version, but it was in August that I last tried it. I had good results with a ATI Radeon card. Worked very well, but I had to pull the internal VRAM first. After all that though, I'd also suggest that you pick up a used blue and white. The amount of work and investment you'll have to make in the older Macs just doesn't compare to how easy it will be on a G3, and it will probably only cost you $500. Also, keep in mind that OS X needs lots of RAM to be happy. If you don't already have 256MB+ installed, it may be expensive to buy the amount of older RAM you'll need.
