I just double checked a bill from last week, and CCRA only charged
me $5 handling (plus GST) for $100 worth of comic books. $5 seems to be
what I remember.
Occasionally one will luck out and get things passed through with
no charges - particularly when they are busy - I got $400 worth of car
parts over Christmas in for no charge.
Occasionally they will open up the box and assess the value - I got
hit with a huge bill when they opened up a box that contained an invoice
for lots of items that were spread over a number of boxes. CCRA assessed me
on that total rather than the total declared by the shipper which was in
that box - I had to send CCRA a letter explaining the situation and the
receipts for the other boxes which I had also paid charges on. Now I always
remind the shipper to only inculde paperwork for items in the box being
shipped.
