Joe,
Did you try booting the Powerbook with the extensions off
(holding SHIFT key during startup)? It should prevent the
screensaver from being loaded, and then you can remove it from the
Extensions folder.
I had the same problem recently with an iMac I was fixing. The
original owner had it set up for multiple users, so I was presented
with the login screen every time I booted, but I didn't have the
password. I booted with extensions off and disabled the multi-user
extension. Hmm... not terribly secure, but there you have it.

Looking for any old software for Apple or Mac on floppy.
I have an Apple IIgs with both external floppy (3.5" and 5.25")
formats, and a Mac Powerbook Duo-Dock 230 (with the dock).
The powerbook has MacOS on it, but afterdark comes up with a
password protected screensaver on bootup so it's pretty much
useless until I can get a floppy or reinstall an OS.
Preferably in the Ottawa area.
