Unless the CD-ROM is actually physically broken (i.e. it doesn't read
CDs) then you can boot up your computer using the Mac OS CD-ROM and
bypass the software (possibly... don't know foolproof).
1. Insert the Mac OS CD into the drive.
2. Restart the computer and hold down the c key until the CD-ROM
starts reading the CD and booting off the CD.
3. Do a search for "foolproof" and move anything related to it into a
separate folder (i.e. extensions or control panels).
4. Restart.
If 1 & 2 work but 3 & 4 don't then you can reformat the HD. If 1 & 2
don't even work then you'll have to remove the HD from the iMac and
reformat it in another computer.
