Oh, I forgot to mention _why_ PC, PC/XT keyboards are different from the PC/AT and later ones.
For some reason IBM put part of the memory control circuitry in the keyboard on the original AT. That's a mystery that I've never been able to find out the why of. Maybe IBM's engineers just ran out of room on the AT motherboard? Ever see one of them? HUGE! All built from TTL DIP chips.
