Not a whole lot of need for running System/Mac OS 7.1 through 8.1 on hardware that can generally already run a version somewhere in there. About the only use I can see for Basilisk II on the "classic" Mac OS is if you need to run some olde app on a PowerMac that absolutely will not run under OS 8.x or 9.x.x Offhand I can't think of any major apps that will run under 8.x that won't run under 9.x.x. I know there are some that don't like 8.x but IMHO it'd be easier to dual boot 8.x and 7.5.5 and be able to run 7.5.5 with PPC power instead of running an emulated 040 under 8.x. Basilisk II for Mac OS "classic" would fill a need, but it's a pretty small need. OTOH, I've been having a blast with Virtual PC for Windows on Windows XP. I can run all the old DOS and Windows 3.1 games I used to play. ;) The Even More Incredible Machine "runs" under XP on my 700Mhz Athlon but the colors are screwed up and it rips along at Warp 10. :P The colors are OK on 98SE but it still runs so fast it's unplayable. I thought that programmers had stopped using the "free running" style of programming soon after the first Turbo XT came along and made all their software run 20% faster. The PC design has a hardware timer for a reason, if you're programming speed sensitive software for a PC, use the flinking timer to control it. :P ===== "When you are wrestling for possession of a sword, the man with the handle always wins."
