>will going from OS 7 to OS 8 give me lots of software hassles

I wouldn't think so. The problem with older systems is that the newer versions of
some software won't run under them or I would still be on 7.1 and using 1.2 megs of
ram for the system. As it is I'm on 8.6 and using 22 megs on my Pulsar with 96 megs
installed.
System 8 and 8.5 cd's are usually available on ebay.co.uk and go for around 20
or so and the upgrades to 8.1 and 8.6 are free downloads from apple. Both are good
systems bettered by the upgrades but I prefer 8.6 as 8.1 was always a little bit iffy
with browsers and the internet in general whereas I have no problems with 8.6 and
Explorer/icab.
I installed 8.5 on my Pulsar from a G3 powerbook disk with no hassles but I have
never tried to switch systems across computers - may be ok.
