Ah Ha! A subject on which I am an expert: An expert in the Macintosh
world is defined as one who has made every conceivable mistake!

The Maplins adaptor does allow a SVGA monitor to be physically
connected, but if the Mac does not supply the necessary signal, then
the monitor cuts out as a safety precuation. I think it is called MRPI
compliance or something.

I know this happens, because I tried it. There is a more expensive
type of adaptor you can get which converts the signals. I think the
Maplins adaptor is meant for monitors which are Mac compatible anyway,
but which have not got the right connecting lead with them.
