I have rescued a Power PC 6100. :)
It was being thrown out at work and I put my name down for it, but
unfortunately some people got to it first and threw away most of the bits.
I've managed to acquire an old mac mouse and keyboard and after a lot of
struggle, the really strange video connector. I've also managed to get a
monitor and that wierd hydra cable and some old sccsi hard disks *phew*
It's my first mac so I'm a bit bamboozled by all the slightly wierd
aspects of it!
I mean the modem connector is very weird. Is there a lead available to
convert this to a normal serial connector, or maybe it is possible to make
one? Is it possible to buy the little mac serial connector thingys? Maybe
from Maplins or somewhere?
Anyone ever play with the AV card on one of these? I'm quite tempted to
try and find one, it's possibly the only thing that can make me want to
remove my 486 card from the mac.
Can anyone explain the AUII thing? I understand it is ethernet, but not as
we know it!
Can I connect my mac to a PC thru this somehow? I have managed to get my
paws on an ethernet card thing but I think it is NuBus which I would need an
adaptor for, and to remove my 486 card! Could I get hold of another old mac
that does NuBus, stick the ethernet card in that, connect the two macs
together with that Apple Talk serial networky thing (not sure how that works
or what it is called!) and then connect the pc to the NuBus mac and they
could all talk to one another?
OR some other magical way?
Hey I even got given a copy of macos 8 the other day, I'm quite tempted to
install it but worried it will slow things down.
Any mac tips welcome!
love
Freya
