Aaaahhh, now I remember. There are two different revisions of logic board (well there are actually 4 I know of but that's not entirely relevant) with the RAM sockets in different places. The one model, as you say, has the RAM in diagonal holders in two groups of 4. The other, like mine, has it in one group of 8 vertical all packed in like sardines.
