Hello Every one. I have been subscribed to Mac UK for some time but this is my first listing for assistance.
I am sorry that this is a long story but need to explain what I have done so far. I have a Apple Stylewriter 2400 printer which has been faithful for many a year. Occasionally there came a report that the cartridge was not installed correctly and with a little playing around the fault went. About ten days ago my finder files were trashed by what at first appeared to be a modem problem. All signs pointed to a corrupt system folder so I performed a clean install of a new system. This proved to be a wrong path as the fault was not cured. After continual forays with rebooting via the OS CD I decided to turn off all non Apple extensions then start switching each one on to see what happened. I arrived at the Teleport extension which when activated trashed the finder folder. I copied another finder from the OS 8 CD which made things stable again. I also copied a backup copy of my modems Teleport extension into the system. Before I continued any further I disconnected all my exterior devices ie modem, printer and SCSI chain. I then started reconnecting items to see what happened. All the SCSI items connected and worked OK. When I came to the printer, this was reconnected but when a print of a document was attempted the dialogue box said that the cartridge was not located correctly and to reinstall it and try printing again. But this time no playing around would make the printer cartridge be noticed. I the disconnected the printer and proceeded with the modem. After some initial problems, ie: making sure the correct port was activated and the correct script was selected I was able to connect to the Net all was now stable. I had the come to the conclusion that the printer had caused the problem all along or perhaps the cable. I then tried to do a test print which would prove that the printer was working and the cable would be the fault. When the printer was switched on and the button held down to activate the test print it made an awful noise grinding and buzzing and not doing a full carriage transverse. Also the error light kept blinking which is an indicator for the cartridge not being located. So it appears that the printer is faulty. I had a spare cartridge which I have tried to see if the cartridge was the fault. Last weekend I stripped the printer down to see if the was any obvious visible fault like a break in the ribbon wire but nothing jumped out at me. As I have still a lot of ink tanks to use for the 2400 / 2500 printer are there any pointers or fault diagnostic info that anyone could supply me to have my faithful friend back up and running again. If not has anyone got a 2400 / 2500 in good working order that they would part with for a small sum ?. Thanks John.E.Abraham. I'M A DWELLER ON THE THRESHOLD. BEAM ME BACK TO EARTH NO.1.
