This printer has recently stopped working, for no apparent reason. Was doing
fine, then one day suddenly it says "The LaserWriter 300 printer has a
Scanner Motor Malfunction. Contact an authorized service provider." Now I
can't even print a test page.

I have a spare, working Personal LaserWriter SC (the wierd SCSI one) and, as
I understand that all these Personal LaserWriters were pretty similar
internally, apart from the controller or I/O board, I was thinking of
transplanting its scanner motor. The SC has freak value, but is otherwise
basically useless as it requires QuickDraw GX, and it's a pain to be
confined to that rejected printing standard. So I wouldn't care too much at
making the SC non-functional.

Trouble is, the Apple service manual does not show where the scanner motor
is. It has an exploded view, that shows where the 'Main Motor' (part
890-0426) is, but it does not show where the scanner motor is. Am I right in
thinking they are different? Can't remember the specifics now, but some
research I did on the web suggested they were different things.

Upshot is, anyone know if the two laserwriters have the same kind of scanner
motor, and also where it resides within the machine? Also, whether there are
any specific difficulties involved in the transplant, or tips about it?
Thanks for anyone's help,

Cheers,

Mike
