Hi

No doubt a silly question, but how do I get an ethernet card to work?
Recently bought one on eBay, along with a one-slot riser - which was the
real find as I'm trying to upgrade a 5260, now fitted with a 6500 logic
board and maxed out with 128mb of 168 pin RAM. The profiler shows the
existence of the blasted thing, but there doesn't seem to be any address
and the TCP/IP control panel refuses to give any ethernet option. The
machine in question is running OS 8.6, a "clean re-install".

On the other hand, the logic board out of the 5260 is now inside an old
LC630 case, fitted with a PDS ethernet card. This is also running 8.6
(it's the original hard drive from the 5260), but I do get the ethernet
option in TCP/IP and the profiler shows an address.

Do I need some additional driver software on top of 8.6? The card in
question is of SMC manufacture, both RJ45 and BNC, but only 10 Mbps. I
only really want to transfer files from the old hard disk to the newer,
using ethernet as this will be quicker than via serial printer cable. The
top side of the card shows 1996, 60-600668-001 rev a and a sticker on the
lower side shows 668-010 C3697,D3 8432 BT, Made in Ireland.

I've already looked at the SMC website, but couldn't find anything. I
emailed the support lot, but have had no response. Can anyone on this
list help? Or do you suspect that the ethernet card itself is knackered?

Thanks

David
