Hi all Have just upgraded from a spare Performa 460 to a spare PowerMac 6200. The Performa contains loads of files which I'd like to transfer to the other machine, so put them on to an external SCSI hard drive. So far so good, the files are safe, but the PowerMac - with an IDE hard drive - refuses to boot with the external SCSI drive attached. The PowerMac is running OS 8.1 - seem to have been down this road before, but can't remember the key combination to get the external drive to show up on the desktop of the PowerMac. If it makes any difference - the Performa is running 7.6.1 and both machines are only formatted for ordinary HFS.
Vaguely recall some issues over an IDE bus having problems with external SCSI peripherals, but it was long ago and I can't remember which OS I was using at the time. Can anyone help with this, or am I faced with a long transfer using a serial printer cable, as only one machine has an old ethernet card? Look forward to hearing from you.
