I can't help with sourcing the adaptor locally, but I can add some comments on the 'shipping from the US' option.

Does anyone know of ANYWHERE in the UK that sells these adapters? I can get it shipped over from America but a) they'll charge more for postage than the adapter costs, the combined price ending up more than I've paid for the Mac, RAM and hard drive, and b) if it doesn't work it would be nice to be able to send it back easily.
You're also likely to get stung for import duty which is levied on the combined cost of the adaptor and postage! I just lost an argument with FedEx over that one (paid 8.23 duty on a 20 iTrip, as the postage doubled the amount I had to pay duty on..)
On the plus side, Griffin have agreed to replace the iTrip (FM transmitter for iPod) we received after we noted a high pitched whine.
